Effect of Polyacrylic Acid Addition on Degradation of Polylactide under Abiotic Conditions
Original language description
This study is focused on evaluation of the experimentally prepared functional additive based on polyacrylic acid/polylactic acid copolymer (PAA/PLA) on the degradation kinetics of high molecular weight polylactide (PLA) under various conditions. Degradation studies were conducted in an aqueous buffer of pH 7. Abiotic degradation rate was measured by monitoring of changes in content of carbon dissolved. Random scission of ester bonds in the PLA sample with the highest concentration of 15 % PAA/PLA during abiotic hydrolysis was accelerated by more than twice the amount seen for pure PLA.
