The article is based on the topic of the thesis dealing with systems of demand management. Market knowledge and operative planning are two phenomena which appear to be more and more interlinked and the changes in planning should reflect the future eventsin the free market. Estimating future demand is a necessary prerequisite for satisfying customers' needs in a more efficient way. It allows companies to focus on more economical resources and cut overheads in the pursuit for rationalization . The aim ofthe article is to show the position of demand management as a part of supply chain management and to stress its role within strategic and operative planning. In the first part the author defines the term demand management and supply chain management. The main part of the article focuses on the position of demand management within supply chain management.
