As a result of the increasing challenges that companies face today to remain competitive, the comprehensive scope of the BSC makes it the management method of choice for small & medium size enterprises (SME). A purely financial view is no longer sufficient for enterprises. Instead, management requires a transparent and up-to-date report on the company's situation at all times. This requirement is fulfilled by the BSC system. Nevertheless, certain points of the BSC, such as the use of economic key figures, must be closely examined. The available literature contains numerous notes on this, and if these are observed errors and misunderstandings can be avoided. The BSC is a special type of management system ? as it links strategic and operative aspects inthe company.
