    Family business plays an important role in all types of economies and is a prominent form of company around the world. The political and economic history of former Czechoslovakia and the current Czech Republic has made it difficult to find a family business without an interrupted tradition and with the experience of a generational transition. This paper aims at describing approaches toward family business management, succession planning and generational transition with a focus on Czech and Turkish entrepreneurs. In spite of divergent cultural, political and social backgrounds, Turkey is appealing as an appropriate place to study and research family businesses. The Czech authors of this paper have benefited from long-term stays in Turkey and the research is based on observations of particular examples and supported with comprehensive research of the relevant literature.
