Tomas Bata (1876 ? 1932) was a Czech entrepreneur who founded a shoe company in 1894. Over the years, the company had grown into a shoe empire of transnational scale. Not only in the Czech Republic but also in the world, Bata`s business philosophy has been perceived as timeless. Currently, the philosophy is called Bata Management System. Nowadays, many companies have been trying to implement principles of the system into their own business strategies. Nevertheless, what is missing to implement the strategy effectively is a study that would accurately define the principles on which the system operated and which could be applied in the presence. This paper presents results of research focusing on analysing the Bata Management System before 1945 (prior tothe nationalization by the Communist Party).
