Original language description
Motivation characteristic are influential in shaping students’ desire to engage in sport. This study explores the motivations students participate in sport activities after classroom hour and investigates the difference type of motivations between males and females. Based on the self-determination theory, there are three main motivations, such as intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation, and amotivation. A representative university survey of 355 respondents completes the questionnaire of 28 items. The outcomes of study investigates that sport participation is more closely link to intrinsic motive, in particular, motivation to accomplishment is the main reason to engaging in sport activity. Compared with the intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation is the higher influence on sport participation because it allows students to be well regarded by people they know. In addition, females return higher scorer for all motivation types except for amotivation. Some implications, limitations, and future research are also provided in this study
