The joint exhibition Bromography: Known Unknown and Historical Techniques of Photography at Akademia Sztuk Pięknych im. Jana Matejki w Krakowie (ASP Gallery, Kraków) brings together two related strands: a research-based artistic project focused on interwar historical photographic techniques with a particular emphasis on bromography, and a broader educational component presenting historical photographic techniques in general through student work developed within teaching at Univerzita Tomáše Bati ve Zlíně. The first section builds on doctoral and grant-supported research combining archival study and experimental reconstructions of photochemical workflows, aiming to verify bromography as a reproduction method in which the image forms in a light-sensitive emulsion; it presents approximately 60 research-based photographs produced using multiple techniques together with about 15 original bromographic postcards and 2 photographs from estate materials. This research presentation is contextualised by an additional set of approximately 50 student photographs created in a wide range of historical photographic processes, enabling comparison of principles, terminology, and material evidence across techniques. An interpretive component explains the exhibited technologies and key terms, clarifies distinctions between historical originals, contemporary reconstructions, and educational outputs, and highlights the cultural significance of photographic reproduction.
