CZECH SECONDARY SCHOOL PUPIL’S ATTITUDES TO HOMEWORK
Original language description
The aim of the presented paper is to point out the actual situation of assigning homework at secondary schools in the Czech Republic and to find out secondary school students’ attitudes to economics subjects’ homework. The importance of homework given from the Economics as the learning subject at the selected secondary schools is discussed according to the results from the questionnaires completed by secondary school pupils (N=239) in the South Moravian region in the Czech Republic. The data analysis of the pilot study of 15 items and 1 additional open question item introduces the frequency, forms, evaluation and in general the pupils’ attitudes to homework from Economics. The results of the research were most obvious that although pupils do not have exaggerated homework, they lack the motivation to process them. The homework types and forms do not develop the pupil’s personality, moreover 61% the pupils are not motivated to do the homework. According to the findings the pupils in 23% also use the coping the homework from the classmates as the way of cheating. The alarmingly low number of the pupil’s engagement to homework is strictly connected with the sense of given homework, even though the pupils are considered that the homework is useful for their academic achievement. Research has also shown that some pupils lack the feedback. The suggestion to improve the current situation is to give pupils greater motivation and focus on the usability of homework for the future career. For economic subjects, applicability is considered as the matter of course to change the pupils’ attitudes to homework.
