Introduction: The contribution is focused on the introduction of the profession ofa health and social worker and preparation for his qualification education in the threeyear bachelor&apos;s programme of Health and Social Care at the Department of HealthSciences, Faculty of Humanities, Tomas Bata University in Zlín. By completing theprogramme, one can acquire the ability and professional competence both toperformance the profession of social worker according to Act No. 108/2006 Coll., onsocial services, and to performance the profession of health and social workeraccording to Act No. 96/2004 Coll., on paramedical health professions. The study isdesigning so that its graduates acquire a comprehensive knowledge overview in thefield of health and social care. Emphasis is placed especially on practical teaching.Objective: The aim of the contribution is to demonstrate the benefit of the professionto the Czech practice of medical, social and health social facilities. Using practicalexamples and models, various possibilities of applying a health and social worker inpractice will present. Results: Even if it is not strictly defined by legislation, whereexactly a health and social worker should work, in practice we can come across thatthey work in the health, social or health social field. In the case of a health focus, it canbe for example state and non-state health facilities, which provide institutional healthcare, hospices, hospitals for the long-term sick, or psychiatric hospitals. In the socialarea, we are dealing with social services of various nature and target groups, in whichhealth and social work and client care are interwoven. A suitable application in practicecan also be in state administration (labour offices, social-legal child protectionauthorities, social guardians), but also in various non-profit organizations, charitiesand other organizations. From the combination of the health and social field, it ispossible to mention, for example, home care agencies, mental health centres, etc.Conclusion: The paper emphasizes the perception of the health and social worker aspart of a multidisciplinary team in the providing of comprehensive health and socialcare. Given the constant need for people who require health, social and family care,as well as the increasing costs of care provided, targeted prevention and mitigationof negative impacts is irreplaceable. The fields of social work play a significant role inthis prevention.
