Public administration in the Czech Republic has undergone a great development in the last few years. As a result, more dynamic and turbulent environment for the private and public sectors is increasing pressure on the quality of services provided by public administration. The use of modern management tools in the public service is a way to respond to changes in the reform of public administration and ever new tasks and responsibilities which are delegated to municipalities and regions. In this paper, the authors focus on the use of project management in the public sector. Project management is one of the major trends in contemporary management. When applying methods of project management within business firms in the Czech Republic, the situation has changed in many ways during the last ten years.
