Partial Hydrolysis of Poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazolines) to Poly(2-oxazoline-co-ethylene imines): Synthesis, Cytotoxicity and Complexing Efficiency with the Perspective for Biomedical Applications

  • Original language description

The versatility of 2-oxazolines and its (co)polymers such as poly (2-ethyl-2-oxazolines) (PETOx) and their ability to form biomaterials has been arising. A living cationic ring opening polymerization of 2-ethyl-2-oxazoline provides poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazolines), which are biocompatible and non-toxic polymers. Poly(ethylene imine), PEI, is well-known polymer used in different biomedical fields such as genetic engineering. However, its cytotoxicity is the main drawback for enhancing its potential in biomedical applications. Therefore, a partial acidic hydrolysis of PETOx leading to compolymer of PETOx with PEI is considered as a suitable way for the preparation of biosafe analogue to PEI. In our work, PETOx with varying molar mass wass prepared and used forthe synthesis of a series of poly(2-ethyl-2oxazoline-co-ethylene imine) copolymers by the controlled hydrolysis of PETOx within the time interval from 15 to 180 min. The structure and composition of the prepared copolymers were determine
