Partialy Hydrolyzed Poly (2-ethyl-2-oxazolines): Synthesis and Cytotoxicity Assay for Biomedical Applications

  • Original language description

Polymers with the functional groups represent an important aspect in the medical field. 2-oxazolines and its co-polymer represents promising compound in the preparation of biomaterials as potential alternatives to Poly-ethylene glycol (PEG) which has disadvantage of having poor mechanical properties. These classes of synthetic polymers are very versatile and the living cationic polymerization of 2-ethyl-2-oxazolines giving rise to Poly (2-ethyl-2-oxazoline) (PETOx) which are biocompatible, thermo sensitive and non-toxic in nature. On the other hand poly (ethylene imine) (PEI), a highly branched cationic polymer is widely used in the drug delivery as transfecting agents and also in tissue engineering. But the cytotoxic issue is the main drawback in thePEI, so partially hydrolyzed PETOx with its copolymer as PETOx-PEI are prepared so that the cytotoxic level of PEI gets controlled. In this article we report about synthesis and characterization of partially hydrolyzed Poly (2-ethyl-2-oxa
