Effect of Addition of Fillers on the Tribological Properties of PE/PP Blends
Original language description
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of addition of fillers on the tribological properties of the polymer blends of high density polyethylene and polypropylene (PE/PP blends). Various types of fillers such as graphite, molybdenum disulfide, and PTFE, glass fiber, rubber powder, organic fillers, and so on were used as solid lubricants. These composites were extruded by a twin extruder and injection-molded. Tribological properties were measured by a ring-on-plate and ball-on-plate type sliding wear tester under dry condition. It was found that the effect of addition of fillers on the tribological properties of PE/PP blends is different according to the type of fillers and wear mode. Especially, PTFE and nutshell powder (NSP) are effective for reducing the wear resistance in initial wear mode.
