Composites based on an elastic polymer matrix filled with magnetic microparticles represent a new class of materials whose mechanical properties can be precisely controlled via an external magnetic field. These intelligent systems known as magnetorheological elastomers (MREs) are used mainly in civil engineering as dampers or vibration isolators.
