Polylactide-Gadolinium nanoparticles as diagnostic and therapeutic tool
Original language description
Gadolinium (Gd) chelates have been widely used as contrast agent in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and neutron capture therapy (NCT). However, the poor selective tissue labelling and localisation provided by conventional molecular Gd chelates have confined their success and limited the application. Encapsulate Gd into nanoparticles can be considered as a method to overcome these limitations. In this regard, polylactic aciddiethylenetriaminopentaacetic acid (DTPA) conjugate was used to develop nanoparticles able to allocate Gd and fluoresceine isothyocianide to enhance MRI and fluorescent contrast, respectively. The Gd-labeled nanoparticles showed the potential as targeting molecular MRI contrast agent for further clinical utilisation.
