Trust, conflict and performance
Original language description
This article reviews the relation among trust, level of conflict and firm performance. Based on literary research, the following relations were verified: a) inter-organizational trust and level of conflict; b) interpersonal trust and level of conflict; c) level of conflict and firm performance. Most authors work on the assumption that trust diminishes level of conflict, and this fact was empirically proven by e.g. Zaheer et al. (1998). This is true both for inter-organizational trust and for interpersonal trust. Studies have also empirically validated negative relation between level of conflict and firm performance. This thesis is explained by the fact that increasing frequency (and omnipresence) of conflicts may put higher demands on time when solvingthem, higher involvement of other members of staff, as well as higher negative side effects of conflict.
