The Regional Development Strategy of the Czech Republic for the years 2007 ? 2010 conceives the mitigation of imbalance between regions in the economic, social and environmental spheres as one of its principal objectives at respecting the European Union?s regional policy goals. A thorough analysis of the quality of life in the individual regions and identification of the factors causing regional disparities remain the cornerstones in determining suitable instruments for the mitigation of regional disparities. The paper sets out to analyze the disparities in regional economic performance in the Czech Republic by using the multidimensional statistical method of factor analysis. In total 68 indicators were identified for the individual regions of the Czech Republic out of which 11 indicators were chosen for the calculation of the index of development potential by using the factor analysis, such as the number of enterprise-type registered units in agriculture, industry, civil engineering,
