Prevention and management of accidental exposures in radiotherapy in the Czech republic
Original language description
Nobody can entirely avoid accidental exposures in radiotherapy resulting from a failure of technical systems or human mistake. However it is possible and highly desirable to prevent them by continuous quality improvement. If accidental exposure occurs, it is necessary to classify it correctly and take appropriate measures, particularly to analyze it (root cause analysis), to record and send the protocol to SONS in case of serious radiological accident, and to take preventive measures. This paper describes the situation in the Czech Republic, i.e. legal requirements, recommendations, summary of accidental exposures and near misses during 2005-2011, examples of accidental exposures and lessons learned from accidental exposures.
