Anotace anglicky

John the Blind and his daughter Bonne became exclusive patrons of the musician and poet Guillaume de Machaut, who wrote for them a number of poetic and musical works, collected in illuminated manuscript BN ms.fr. 1586. The works have not yet been studied from the patron´s perspective although in some of the patrons appear as characters in them. No one has raised the questions why the works of fiction were ordered and what their relations to the patrons was. The project envisages a new thematic analysis of these works, a reconstruction of the historical context, and a comparison between Machaut’s works and other works produced at the court of the Luxembourgs. Finding answers to the questions about the intention and reception of Machaut’s works is advantageous in many ways. They will constitute a new source for the Luxembourg era, expand our knowledge of the hitherto unknown historico-cultural reality and enable us to better understand Machaut’s output. Only thanks to a “historical” approach can we tell apart the literal, figurative and spiritual significance of his work.
