Czech Art of the 1950´s in its international sociocultural context
Anotace anglicky
The Czech Art of 1950’s project is the first to adopt a synthetic view of a culture as a whole in the high dogmatism period, its official and unofficial structures including the initial years of the political thaw. It relates to an in-depth examination of independent culture which has been going on since 1989 and which the authors have made significant contributions to. The socialist realism phenomenon as well as sociological and historical aspects of this period have been researched separately. The new attempt do not focus on further research of cultural and political aspects of the 1950’s only; the priority is a new, complex view of their internal structure and more general characteristics. The objective is formulating the essential problems, name the main topics and their interconnections, or the contrasting co-existence of both cultural polarities while searching for the answers to the questions of to what extent the Czech culture of this era can be set in the context of post-war bi-polar Europe from the point of view of contemporary strategies of art history and science.
