Metrology for drug delivery

This JRP will provide traceable calibration services for drug delivery systems for flow rates down to 1 nl/min with a target uncertainty of 0.5 %. This is several orders of magnitude lower than the lowest calibration service available in Europe today. This will help to improve the reliability and accuracy of drug delivery, thereby increasing the safety of infusion technology. Hence, the ultimate goal of this JRP is to make drug delivery more reliable, especially for multi-pump infusion and applicationswith very low flow rates.

Project results evaluation
Several devices for calibration of flowmeters for very low flowrates was developped or improved within the MeDD project. The devices are used for flowrates from 10 nL/min which are applied for medical purposes, i.g. in implanted pumps dosing drugs. CMI contributed mainly by a mathematical model and numerical simulation of a calibration device based on thermal expansion of water. This model was used for uncertainty evaluation and was published in an impacted journal.
