Diabetes, a highly prevalent disorder in aging populations, is associated with increased frailty and functional decline in older people (Sinclair AJ et al, 2008). It can explain up to 20% of the excess risk of disability in an elderly population (Gregg EW et al., 2002; Blaum CS et al., 2003; Rockwood K et al., 2000). Studies which aim to reduce frailty (and improve quality of life) in older patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D), which has a high clinical impact and is associated with excessive healthcareexpenditure, have not been undertaken previously.
