In the initial phase, there was built a multidisciplinary centre integrating specialised approaches to address common goals. There was deepened a collaboration with other national centres in structural biology, imaging and biophysics. During the project, the established centre provided services in single molecule imaging and biophysics and characterisation of large complex dynamics. The project combined classical structural biology methods such as diffraction and electron microscopy with single molecule biophysics and imaging in living cells. The interdisciplinary approach applied within a closely integrated team of specialists from physics, chemistry and biology has yielded many new insights and resulted in numerous publications. The facilities created during the project have fostered a new generation of scientific and technical staff with a broad knowledge horizon and a problem-oriented approach to the realisation of complex objectives.
