Two-scale modelling of excavation damage zones and related hydro-mechanical processes
Annotation in Czech
Representation of fractures in the rock mass is one of the open problems in numerical simulations of underground structures. The aim of this project is to develop robust methods based on a two-scale description of hydro-mechanical processes in the fractured rock mass. Discrete fractures embedded in a continuum rock matrix are modeled on a small scale. Using homogenization techniques, effective mechanical and hydraulic properties of the rock mass reflecting the anisotropy and spatial variability will be obtained. Then, these properties will be used for modelling of large-scale problems related to a deep underground structure and its nearfield. We focus on the prediction of excavation damage zones using elastoplastic models and on the determination of a non-linear stress-permeability relationship in the near-field. Data from in situ measurements will be used to determine the parameters of the material models. Bayesian inverse analysis based on surrogate models will also be used within the calibration.
