    Thermosets and their composites constitute a significant part of high-performance polymer materials because they have excellent end-use properties and are therefore applied in a wide range of industries. However, traditional thermosets are covalently crosslinked networks that exhibit limitations in terms of their recycling capabilities. Therefore, it is of great importance to synthesize and develop smart monomers with functional groups that would facilitate the preparation of fully recyclable thermosets. This "design to degrade/recycle" approach is considered in this project focused on the preparation of polyurethane and epoxy networks and composites with covalently incorporated ionic liquid (IL)-moieties, which enable their depolymerization via solvolysis. To achieve this goal, a series of ILs bearing polymerizable functional groups will be synthesized together with inorganic particles bearing ILs with reactive functional groups. The roles of IL-moieties in polymer network formation and depolymerization processes will be investigated in detail.
