    Lightning-generated whistler-mode waves in the Earth's magnetosphere

  • Annotation in Czech

The proposed project focuses on analyzing magnetospheric whistler-mode waves generated by lightning activity. These waves, propagating through the magnetosphere, significantly influence not only the overall intensity and behavior of waves around the Earth but also the population of energetic particles trapped in the Van Allen radiation belts, as they induce their precipitation into the atmosphere. We use a combination of recent satellite data (Van Allen Probes, Arase, Cluster, DEMETER) and ground-based measurements of electromagnetic waves and lightning activity (Kannuslehto station in Finland, PWING stations, global lightning detection network WWLLN) to study the properties and propagation of these emissions, as well as their relationship to other emissions and their effects on the radiation belts. Our research contributes to a deeper understanding of the significance of these emissions, which constitute an important component of magnetospheric plasma waves, both in specific events and on a global scale.
