Zeolite catalysts for renewable chemicals: reactivity and temporal evolution

  • Annotation in Czech

For over 50 years, zeolites have been key heterogeneous catalysts in petrochemistry and oil refining. Now, zeolites are re-emerging as promising materials for sustainable applications, particularly in the valorization of biomass-derived platform molecules. However, our ability to develop robust catalysts for industrial continuous processes remains constrained by our limited understanding of synthesis–property–performance–lifetime relationships under realistic operating conditions. Here, we will bridge this gap by investigating the performance and deactivation pathways of best-performing zeolite catalysts using furfural and aqueous ethanol as industrially relevant platform molecules. Based on the results from our continuous catalytic studies, integrated with in situ/operando FTIR and NMR spectroscopy and supported by theoretical modeling, we will establish a comprehensive, knowledge-driven strategy for designing durable and efficient zeolite catalysts for production of renewable chemicals.
