    Ultratrace analysis of metals and metalloids is of great importance to identify and track various natural and anthropogenic processes, but also to initiate the remediation to mitigate the human health concerns associated with their toxicity. In recent years, isotope ratio analysis has come to the forefront for monitoring such processes. The aim of the project is to develop new methods for the determination of selected metals (Cr, Mo, W, and Re) and metalloids (Ge and Sb). The methods will effectively combine vapor generation techniques, i.e., hydride generation or photochemical vapor generation, with ambient ionization in a dielectric barrier discharge device, and detection by high-resolution mass spectrometry using an Orbitrap mass analyzer. All three procedures will be optimized with a focus on the sensitive and spectral interference-free total determination of selected analytes (or speciation analysis), but also on the feasibility of their precise and accurate isotope ratio determination. The methods will be validated by measurement of reference materials or real samples.
