Climate Susceptibility and Resilience in Protohistoric and Early Medieval Societies of the Middle Danube Region
Annotation in Czech
Climate conditions and their change have been considered significant determinants of past societal development. However, decoding the actual magnitude of its impact could be based only on comprehensive multiproxy research, including palaeoecological and archaeological data. The presently developed agroclimatic reconstructions with yearly temporal resolution and spatial representation of the preconditions to successfully conduct food production (Global Change Research Institute) provide a qualitative advance in palaeoclimatological research possibilities, which could be tested within the context of the Protohistorical and Early Medieval Period societies of the Middle Danube region. The project proposal research activities are oriented toward exploring the structural correlations between the archaeological and agroclimate datasets in the diachronically conceived continuum of 1500 years. It will provide a deeper understanding of the past societal responses to the climate conditions and the resilience rate of the primary subsistence under the changing socio-economic conditions.
