Reconstitution of mammalian centrosome after fertilisation

  • Annotation in Czech

Fertilisation in mammals involves the integration of parental genomes and the reconstitution of the centrosome, a key microtubule-organising centre essential for accurate cell division. Unlike rodents, human and bovine sperm contribute centrioles to the zygote, enabling centrosome formation. However, the mechanisms driving the incorporation and function of sperm-derived centrioles remain poorly understood. This project will use advanced live-cell imaging in bovine embryos to investigate how sperm centrioles transform into functional zygotic centrosomes, contribute to spindle assembly, and influence early cell fate. By combining high-resolution microscopy, molecular perturbations, and lineage tracing, we aim to uncover how centrosome dynamics impact embryo viability and shed light on the origins of developmental failure in humans.
