Specific transporters of non-conventional yeasts

In this project, we will use our know-how obtained and tools constructed so far to characterize in detail cell transporters whose activity contributes to specific qualities of non-conventional yeast species. We will mainly focus on searching for and characterization of transporters whose presence and activity is necessary for cell survival of various types of stresses that the yeast cell may encounter in industrial processes. Obtained new knowledge will contribute to the current state-of-the-art of molecular mechanisms underlying stress tolerance in yeast cells, and will help to identify transporters whose cloning and heterologous expression may improve the qualities of yeast strains used in various branches of biotechnology industry.

Project results evaluation
The project involved international collaboration and dealt with the study of specific transporters in non-conventional yeast species. A series of strains and plasmids for heterologous expression was constructed, and transporters improving the properties of conventional Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells under various types of stress were selected. New and highly-valued results were incorporated into six publications.
