    Electrical Stimulated 3D Scaffold for Bone Regeneration (RESBONREG)

    The project aims to develop new types of multifunctional hybrid electrospun scaffolds for bone regeneration. The hybrid nanofibers exhibit bioinspired architectures, utilizing a combination of responsive, biodegradable polymer matrices that incorporate a variety of nanostructures. The hybrid scaffold possesses characteristic mechanical stability and facilitates the application of tailored electric fields to induce unique osteoinductive properties in combination with controlled release of pro-osteogenic molecules with antimicrobial properties. Furthermore, external electric stimuli applied to the reconfigurable scaffold results in improved biological performance of the bone-healing process. The project will unravel the mechanism of activation/inhibition of osteoclastogenesis, and the angiogenesis in cocultures under different types of electric stimulation. Through biocompatibility of the hybrid scaffold but also due to its collective chemical, mechanical and electrical properties the scaffold will enable the formation of bone constructs with faster and improved quality.
