Internal stresses and phase transitions in gradient Ti-Nb materials prepared by wire additive manufacturing

  • Annotation in Czech

Additive manufacturing (AM) enables the production of components with controlled chemical gradients, yet challenges like porosity and low fracture toughness persist. Among AM techniques, two-wire arc additive manufacturing stands out for its high deposition rate, cost-effectiveness, and precise compositional control. This method is particularly promising for biomedical applications, such as hip joint implants, where varying mechanical properties are advantageous. By employing the Ti-Nb alloy system, this project aims to optimize implant design by tailoring elasticity and strength along the femoral stem. Metastable β-Ti alloys facilitate this approach, as slight compositional changes significantly influence mechanical properties. The study investigates the potential of graded Ti alloys produced through wire AM to enhance biomedical performance, with a particular focus on internal stresses and phase transformation in graded Ti-Nb alloys.
