The aim of the project is to probe the dynamics of the bond breaking processes in molecules and clusters. We will initiate the bond cleavage in several ways. The experiments in the applicant’s laboratory in Prague will focus on the dissociation induced by electron impact. The experiments at collaborating facilities within the MD-GAS COST action will probe exactly the same target systems but with different excitation means. In the GANIL accelerator (Caen, France) we will use the high-energy ion impact and at the Elettra Synchrotron (Trieste, Italy) we will use the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) photons. The comparison of fragmentation pathways in case of three different triggers (electrons, photons, high energy ions) will unravel the excitation-specific decay dynamics. The especially interesting question arises whether there will be differences in the complexity chain gas phase – clusters. We will further extend this complexity chain by performing experiments at the Synchrotron Soleil (Paris, France), where the Pleiades beamline is equipped with a liquid microjet setup.
