The present book represents the initial volume of a series of reports dedicated to the archaeological exploration of the ancient site of Wad Ben Naga, located in the River Nile State of the Republic of the Sudan. It is divided into three parts. The first part of the book sums up the current state of knowledge on the site’s history and development after the completion of ten excavation seasons carried out by the Archaeological Expedition to Wad Ben Naga. The second part gives an overview of the Sudanese Antiquities Service excavations at the site which took place between 1958 and 1960. Among others, it presents the currently rediscovered part of the documentation from the Sudanese excavations. The third part presents a collection of seven written accounts by the early Western visitors to Wad Ben Naga who visited Wad Ben Naga before 1844.
