Inactivation of leukemia cells by 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) : based photodynamic treatment (ALA-PDT).

  • Original language description

The mechanism of photodynamic therapy, ALA-PDT, was investiagated using HL60 (promyelocytic leukemia) and K562 (chronic myelogenous leukemia) cell lines. The apoptosis is triggered in HL60 cells which proceeds simultaneously by two pathways. In K562 cells apoptosis is triggered, the process is not finished and continues as necrosis.
