Classification and function of histone deacetylase inhibitors
Original language description
There are more than 18 mammalian HDAC enzymes identified to date that are classified in four groups. HDAC inhibitors (HDACIs) function as effective anti-cancer agents and are classified into four structural groups: the hydroxamic acids, cyclic peptides, benzamides and short-chain fatty acids. The hydroxamates inhibit all classes of HDACs. Other compounds are more specific.
