Administration of the serotonin (5-HT)2A/1A receptor agonist psilocin (4-hydroxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine) causes specific behavioural changes including deficit in cognitive functions and hallucinations in humans and psychotic-like behaviour in animals. The first objective of the present study was to compare the effect of different doses of psilocin on pre-pulse inhibition of the startle response (PPI) and locomotor activity in an open-field test. The second objective was to examine the effect of psilocinon working and reference memory in the Morris water maze (MWM). Male Wistar rats were divided into three groups, a control goup and two experimental groups. Experimental groups received two different doses (1 mg/kg and 4 mg/kg) of psilocin and control group received an adequate volume of saline. Results demonstrated that the lower dose of psilocin disrupted sensorimotor gating in PPI paradigm. Both doses decreased locomotor activity in the open-field. Psilocin also impaired spatial effi
