Seasonality and geographic variation of innate seed dormancy in broadleaved dock and curled dock.
Original language description
The absence of dormancy was ascertained by germinating seeds at constant 25 C and light. In R. obtusifolis the proportion of germinable seeds of individual plants increased with date of spring sprouting of their fertile shoots. In individual plants the date of sprouting and dormancy were similar in successive yeras. We established both latitudinal and altitudinal trends for increasing germinability in seed materials of R, crispus collected from European localities between 42-53 oN and between 2-1450 m a.s.l. A trend for increasing germinability with altitude was established in R. obtusifolius from Czechia. Cutting substantially decreased germinability of seeds from regrowth shoots.
