Chromosome substitutions with dominant loci Vrn-1 and their effect on developmental stages of wheat

  • Original language description

The effect of wheat homoeologous group 5 chromosome substitutions with dominant alleles Vrn-A1, Vrn-B1, and Vrn-D1 on growth stages was analysed within a set of substitution lines Zdar (Zl 5A), Zdar (CP 5B), Zdar (CS5D), Koutka (Zl 5A), Koutka (âP 5B), Koutka (CS5D). The substitution lines were sown into the field plots on ten subsequent sowing dates. The results showed marked differences between the early and late sowings (mostly negative effect) that were mostly connected with the response to day length, expressed by the contrasting photoperiod sensitivity of the genetic backgrounds of Zdar and Koutka. The largest differences between early and late sowing were found in the lines carrying the chromosome 5D (Vrn-D1) while the substitution lines for chromosome 5A were the least sensitive possibly due to the epistatic effect of the present Vrn-A1 locus, suggesting the most marked effect of present Vrn-1 loci on vernalisation response.
