Original language description
In the paper the results of gradually established field trials with sorghum within the years 1993-2004 are evaluated. There were monitored the site, nitrogen fertilization and sowing rate effect on the above-ground phytomass yield. There was verified effect the term of harvest on the water content in the harvested material, phytomass loss during winter period, basic nutriet content, and energy content in the crops as well. Particular mutually monitored sorghum genotypes from aspect of suitability for burning were compared. For direct combustion the best results were found at sorghum "Hyso-2"of all tested genotypes or grain sorghum. Sweet sorghum was found being the least available. The plants of sorghum had high water content during harvest period, amounting in average 66 % in autumn, 42 % in spring and also high phytomass loss reaching 37.5 % within a winter period. The sorghum phytomass yields from the autumn harvest converted to dry matter varied in average from 5.14 t/ha to 27.06 t
