Genetic engineering of Plum pox virus resistance: 'HoneySweet' plum-from concept to product
Original language description
Spreading of Sharka disease caused by PPV throughout Europem and the world and loss of fruit production is described. The development of resistance through genetic engineering is presented. GM plum ´HoneySweet´ resistant to PPV was developed. PPV protection is based on RNA interference and resistance has been shown do be highly effective, stable, durable, and heritable as a dominant trait.
