Feeding of non-structural carbohydrates prepartum and its effect on milk production performance
Original language description
The objective the experiment was to assess the impact of high amounts of non-structural carbohydrates (NFC) in the ration of high-yielding dairy cows before calving on dry matter intake prepartum and postpartum and on the subsequent milk production performance. For the experiment, 36 high-yielding dairy cows were divided into three well balanced groups (K, O, C), whose diets differed in a term of the amount of non-structural carbohydrates. Cows in the control group (K) were fed the ration containing 33.7 % NFC/kg of dry matter (DM), the experimental group O received about 40.8 % NFC/kg DM and the experimental group C about 47.6 % NFC/kg DM. From the first day after calving all cows were fed common feed ration.
