Selenium and Thyroid Hormones During a Year of Selenium and Iodine Supplementation
Original language description
One of the most important Se functions is deiodination of thyroxine to thyromimetically active triiodothyronine by selenoenzyme Deiodinase. Severy deficiency of Se may lead to subclinical or even clinical manifestation of the IDD (iodine deficient diseases) and to impairment of anabolic-catabolic homeostasis. Serum Se wasw analyzed by INAA and urine Se by fluorometry, urine I by Sandell-Kolthoff reaction. Thyroid hormones and some biochemical parameters were detected by normal laboratory methods. Thyroid gland was measured sonographically. Normal statistical methods were used for evaluation.
