Function of luxS and sdiA genes in intercellular communication and virulence in Salmonella typhimurium.
Original language description
Quorum sensing, i.e. sensing of bacterial density through production of specific secondary metabolites, has been confirmed in many bacterial species. Homology search identified in the Salmonella typhimurium genome two genes, sdiA and luxS, similar to genes involved in quorum sensing in other bacterial species. To determine functions of these genes in S.typhimurium, strains with deletions in sdiA and luxS were constructed. Both the mutants were shown to be of affected virulence in mice.
