Výskyt Toxoplasma gondii v syrovém kozím mléce určeném ke konzumaci
Original language description
Toxoplasma gondii is an intracellular parasite causing toxoplasmosis, one of the most widespread parasitic zoonoses affecting almost all warm-blooded animals including humans. Infection in humans is mostly asymptomatic. However, severe complications may occur in immunocompromised patients and in children after congenital infection. Not only undercooked meat but also raw milk from infected animals may become a source of T. gondii infection for humans. Goats are susceptible to this parasitic infection which causes abortions and stillbirths and leads to significant economic losses for breeders. Out of 50 raw goat milk samples collected from animals on four farms in the Czech Republic, T. gondii DNA was detected in three (6%) samples. Although detection of DNA does not bring direct evidence of the presence of infectious parasitic stages, it raises the possibility that the parasite is transmitted through consumption of raw goat milk.
