Determination of serogroups of shigatoxigenic E. coli isolated in the Czech Republic in farm animals in the 17 year-long period
Original language description
The aim of this study was to describe the prevalence of serogroups of STEC isolates obtained from farm animals in the Czech Republic over last 17 years. Altogether 293 STEC isolates obtained from 153 farms of food animals were screened for presence of stx1, stx2 and eae genes and serotyped using set of 70 O-antisera. Most of the isolates (62%) harboured stx2 gene and this gene was mainly described in pigs. stx1 gene was observed in 23% strains and 15% of the isolates carried both stx1 and stx2 gene. 29% strains harboured stx1, stx2 and eae gene simultaneously, majority of them was isolated from cattle (92%). In total 33 different O-serogroups were detected with predominant serogroups being O139, O141, O26, O103 and O157. Results show high variability of shigatoxigenic strains obtained from food animals with wide spectrum of serogroups.
