Short-course AIT in a porcine allergic model by prolonged and enhanced oromucosal allergen presentation
Original language description
Newborn piglets sensitized intraperitoneally with the common egg allergen ovalbumin (OVA) were sublingually treated five times using a dose ascending administration schedule with a proprietary mouth patch containing high dose of OVA, formulated with immune tolerogenic particles derived from the probiotic bacterium Lactococcus lactis. Physical symptoms were monitored to determine the allergic response. Immunologic assessment was conducted through use of intradermal testing of the allergenic response to OVA. Cryocuts of mucosal and regional lymphoid tissues were analysed by confocal fluorescence microscopy for uptake and migration of OVA allergen and bacterial particles. Following sublingual patch administrations, the pigs were analysed by intradermal allergy testing and for IgE.
