    Cellular immunity in sepsis

  • Original language description

Lymphocyte subset numbers in eptic patients (n=25) were followed 14 days after the admission to the hospital, and compared to values obtained from healthy subjects (n=34). Upon the admission the numbers of circulating NK cells and CD4 and CD8 T-cells ofseptic patients were significantly suppressed. This suppression lasted 3 days for CD4 and CD8 T-cells and 14 days for NK cells. These results suggest that sepsis is responsible for long-lasting suppression of cells associated with innate imunity, whereasof circulating CD4 and CD8 T-cells showed rapid recovery.
