FTO gene was recently identified by genome-wide association studies as a regulator of energy homeostasis, nucleic acid demethylation and lipolysis in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) patients. This study analyzed association of FTO genetic variants with clinical and biochemical parameters of T2D in the populations of West Balkan region.
